Lost & found exhibition opening.

And straight on to the opening! It was such a great night and really busy with lots of friends and family there as well as both of the late night art tours visiting the show. The room certainly felt cosy then!

There was even spontaneous dancing to Otis on the record player.

Thanks to everyone who came down. It's open all month and I'm planning a craft workshop and a couple of intimate get togethers down there. Stay tuned for details.

A home from home.

All done! I finished the last few bits and bobs down in the space and generally enjoyed it all day. Here are pictures for your perusal.

On the home stretch

It's been quite a day. We made great progress in the space today though there are still a couple of little bits and pieces to do before the clamouring hoards arrive tomorrow evening. It feels nice and cosy though.

BUT this morning I moved a ladder, forgetting that there was a hammer on top if it and it fell, pointy end down onto my head. And THEN I closed my finger in a car door and I now have a half blue nail. I'd show you photographic evidence but I'm concerned you may be eating at the moment.

One has to suffer for one's Art, doesn't one?

Lost & Found - the exhibition!

There's some very exciting news here at Lost & Found. I'm having an exhibition next week! It all happened very quickly. A few months back a man called Peter who runs the fantastic PS2 project space on Donegall Street in Belfast emailed me after coming across this very blog. He asked if I'd like to have a lost and found exhibition all about collecting, recycling and how we all have different ideas about the beauty and value of the objects we have around us.

Skip forward to last week when I was told that there was a spot open for my show in April - two weeks later! Luckily I work at the University so I have two weeks holidays for Easter. Isn't life wonderful. So it's all go and very busy and exciting but I wouldn't have it any other way. The next few days will be spent packing up most of the contents of my home to bring down to the space, then I'll spend a few days putting the collections all together.

I'd love people to add items to the project (you can have them back afterwards) - they might be old photographs you find in a second-hand book, a shopping list found on the street or your favourite vintage find or beach combing treasure.

There really is treasure everywhere!

There will be an opening night on Thursday 5th April which coincides with the fabulous late Night Art when all the galleries in Belfast open late and there's free wine to be had! It's always a good night, so please call by if you're free. The exhibition will be there until the 28th april.

Free model-building workshop at Pssquared tomorrow!

If you happen to know any little people who may be at a loose end tomorrow, why not bring them down to the PsSquared Gallery on Donegall Street in Belfast.

I'm doing a workshop in model building for kids 7+ from 12 - 3. It's completely free and is part of a larger exhibition with models and dioramas by many artists. To find out more please click here...

New art

I mentioned a while back that I actually bought a piece of art during one of the 'late night art' walking yours. So here I am that night with the picture, part of a huge painting by the Vent Collective.
And below, my new painting in what is fast becoming an art hoard in one corner of the living room. I really must stop buying pictures.

Have a look at this video to see the artists painting the huge group work and then cutting it into pieces. (I think I got the best bit, and it was a steal!)

Well Hello Dolly!

I recently chanced upon these lovely old dolls. At first I thought the top one was a proper antique but then I noticed that it was made of plastic. I like her dress though.

A sneaky peek up an old-time lady's drawers.
And as for the Spanish/gypsy doll below, I just want to be her.

And then there's this pretty creepy looking doll under a plastic dome. I can't quite recall now why I bought it but then it was during the Late Night Art tour so there may have been free wine involved.

Oh! And Dan and I actually bought a piece of art this time! It was from the Vent Collective show in Platform Arts on Queen Street. We picked it up yesterday so I'll post photos soon.

Late night art

A view of city hall as we set off for another round of 'late night art'. Below is a piece of public art called 'The Calling' by Paddy McCann.

Danny investigates 'Looking for Venus' by Deirdre McKenna at the Golden Thread gallery.
Below is an amazing artwork called 'Formal' by Claire Morgan. It took me a while to realise that the tiny things suspended on the lines are dead flies.

This is a funny video installation by Lorraine Burrell, also at the Golden Thread. I love art that can make you laugh.

Art afficionados and free wine guzzlers Paula, James and Louise, in front of an artwork by Anushiya Sundaralingham at the Belfast Print Workshop. All these exhibitions are free and still running - check them out if you're in Belfast.

Late night art

Late night art in November - sampling local strains of apple. Ps2 gallery, Donegall Street, Belfast.

It's my favourite night of the month! Late night art is on the first Thursday of each month in Belfast and many of the galleries in town open their doors until 9 o' clock with special exhibitions, artists talks and my favourite bit, free wine! God bless Belfast city council.

If something similar doesn't exist in your town or city then I heartily recommend you get out there and get something started yourself!

If you happen to live in Belfast and fancy checking it out here are the listings of galleries involved and this month's exhibitions. http://www.belfastgalleries.com/article.aspx?art_id=2920
